How can Buoyant Force of Water be a Solution to Flooding

Andreas Klippe no responses April 29, 2021

After flooding, we see different objects floating on floodwaters. The buoyant force of water is causing these objects to float. But did you know that the same force can actually help solve flood problems? Read on and find out how.

WHAT IS THE BUOYANT FORCE OF WATER?

To begin, we have to define what buoyant force is.

The buoyant force is the upward force applied to an object. For instance, when you throw a bottle into an ocean, the bottle will float. Why? It is because of the upward force exerted onto the bottle called the Buoyant force.

Upward force of water exerted on the bottle

The weight of a buoyant object dropped into the water is no match to the upward force exerted by the water. Some objects rise to the surface and float because their downward or gravitational force is much lesser than the water’s upward or buoyant force.

ARE ALL OBJECTS BUOYANT?

To float or not to float? That is the question. Since water is exerting a powerful force, do all objects float?

The answer is no.

Rose DeWitt Bukater (of Titanic) is buoyant so she floated

Buoyant objects float on water and non-buoyant objects do NOT float. Usually lighter objects like a feather, a basketball, or an empty 500 ml bottle of water are buoyant. Heavier objects like rocks, bowling balls, laptops, or full 500 ml bottles are negatively buoyant.

GERMAN-ENGINEERED FLOOD SOLUTIONS

Now that you know what buoyancy is, we answer the question, “how can this force help solve flood problems?”

To solve the problem of floods, many business owners and private residents are turning to German-engineered flood protection barriers. These flood barriers are made of marine-grade aluminum, hot-dipped galvanized steel, or stainless steel. They can be operated manually, semi-automatically, or automatically.

All these flood barriers, regardless of the mode of operation, can give total protection to your property. However, you must consider the mode of operation especially when time is a factor. When there is a need to immediately protect the property, you need automatic flood protection barriers.

You must consider the mode of operation especially when time is a factor.

An example of an automatic barrier system is the Self-Activating Flip-Up Flood Barrier. This barrier is unique because floodwaters activate them. The force of the floodwaters activates the flip-up barriers, pushing them up. In other words, the buoyant force of the floodwater causes the barrier to rise.

Let me repeat that, the buoyancy of the flood is what activates the flood barrier!

No electricity? No problem.

Got no time to deploy? Not a problem.

No time for switches? No problem.

Do not have enough manpower? Definitely not a problem.

The buoyant force of the floodwater will solve the possible problem of flooding. And you? Well, you will have NO PROBLEM!

Self-Activating Flip-Up Flood Barriers are made of high-quality materials and absolutely watertight. They are certified by international norms, namely, the US-American FM Global and the German TÜV.

BUOYANCY AND FLOOD BARRIERS

Flood is a big problem in countries with high rainfall intensity and those with low ones. The level of rainfall intensity is no longer an indicator of whether your area will be flooded or not. Everyone is vulnerable to flooding.

However, even if flooding is dangerous, we can use it to turn the tide. The flood that used to damage properties will be the same flood that will catalyze the Self-Activating Flip-Up Flood Barriers! The German manufacturer ANHAMM invented such barriers and is a very successful technology.

You can just relax because the buoyant force of floodwaters will activate Self Activating Flip-Up Flood Barrier

Two weather systems are currently affecting the conditions in different areas across the Philippines. The Northeast Monsoon or Amihan is causing cold winds over the extreme northern Luzon; and the Easterlies or the humid air coming from the Pacific Ocean on the eastern portion of the country.

PAGASA said in their latest bulletin that cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over #Caraga and #Davao region; partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over #Batanes and #BabuyanIslands. Meanwhile, #MetroManila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers.

In their latest bulletin, PAGASA said that they are monitoring the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), which was last estimated 1,695 km East of Mindanao.

Meanwhile, the Easterlies or humid air are forecast to affect the eastern portion of the country.
