A Car Lover’s Guide to Flood Protection

Calling all gearheads, the rainy season is coming and your beloved car could be in trouble! Cars are notorious for rapid depreciation, losing half their value once they are driven off the showroom, but every car enthusiast knows that there’s more to a car than it’s monetary value. Cars can be sentimental and become a part of family moments. Insurance, protective coatings, and regular maintenance are ways of everyday protection for your car. But have you prepared for car flood protection?

Would you let this happen to you? Let our guide show you how you can protect your car!

You already know that when the rainy season comes, floods follow. There are only a few things that can be more disastrous for a vehicle than flood. Guaranteed, a flooded car will experience multiple intermittent problems without proper restoration. Sometimes, the availability of replacement parts can be troublesome. Other times, specialized tools are needed which prevent the user from repairing the car on their own. Then, the car gets stuck at the mechanic’s shop – before you know it, the bills start stacking up and the repairs start costing more than the car.

Check out our car flood protection guide made by the experts!

Common damage to flood affected cars

If your car gets flooded, here are the most common problems you’ll encounter afterwards.

  1. Damage to Electronics and Electrical System. Most of the cars on the road are now computerized and have intricate electrical systems. Some are even inaccessible without the use of specialized equipment.
  2. Damage to the engine can be most costly.
  3. Mold in the interiors ruins cloth, leather, and plastic causing stains and smell.
  4. Corrosion to precision parts like fine threads and brake components.
  5. Start of the degradation of the chassis.

Putting high-quality aluminum flood barriers installed in the perimeter wall of your property can protect everything inside from flood.

What to do to Protect Your Car

First, make sure everything is sealed. Don’t just close your doors and windows, check the rubber sealing around doors and glass panels. Without these seals, even with light rains will cause problems to the interiors of your car. If you anticipate severe flooding, then it’s time to park your car in a higher area.

Next, disconnect the battery. Most of the cars now are computerized, have electronic accessories like screens, or have electronic components especially with precision instruments. If the water reaches the battery terminals or electrical components, it could short circuit the wiring system of the car.

As always, make sure that your car is insured. Aside from your seatbelts, the car insurance will be the next thing to make sure you and your car are protected from sudden accidents.

For the home, our Flood Engineers recommend installing flood barriers. Asian garages are not the same as their enclosed Western counterparts. The RS Demountable Barrier for perimeter fences won’t just protect your garage, but the entire area of your residence as well — keeping everything safe.

A Bond Between Man and Machine

A car is more than just a vehicle. For a lot of people, it is a vital part of their daily routine and a major milestone in their life. It opens up new opportunities for their career or for enjoyment.

Car ownership is a major investment and deserves a high level of car flood protection. Stay healthy and stay flood free.
