What To Do When Your Drainage System Fails!

Relying on drainage systems alone could be your biggest mistake when heavy rains come. If it fails, your property and loved ones are in danger of flood.

Broken drainage system is one of the reasons why properties get flooded, even when it’s not a heavy downpour.

Checking the drainage system of a house is one way to make sure that the house is secured from any harm that floods can bring. It is often overlooked when searching for a new home. Whether you are looking for a place in an urban or rural area, a well-functioning drainage system is a must.

Formation of a lake over Greenland’s ice sheet during the summer of 2016.

The Greenland Ice Sheet is big and old. It’s the world’s largest island, lying in the North Atlantic Ocean and is known for its vast tundra and immense glaciers. Don’t be a Victim of COVID Tunnel Vision

The COVID Pandemic has infected more than 4 million people worldwide and millions more have been urged back into their homes or worse, in hospitals. Those who have been restricted to their homes have been in quarantine for more than 1 month. Needless to say, people are very excited to get out of their homes and out of this pandemic. Unfortunately no end is in sight and worse, experts say we will feel the effects for the years to come. With all the attention to the coronavirus, many more could be suffering from COVID Tunnel Vision.

covid-19 and disaster image

COVID Tunnel Vision is the mistake of concentrating too much resources on the current COVID pandemic that we forget the other inevitable problems we have to face. Are you flood ready?

Time and again, preparedness has been regarded as one of the most important values a person can have. Being prepared and being ready has been the central principle of countless organizations, from scouting groups, public services, to heads of states. It is plain and simple a good value to hold.

Visualize yourself living near a river. Look beyond the relaxing sounds of rushing water. If you have been paying attention, then by now you would have already thought about the risks. Of course there are risks to living anywhere whether by choice or by circumstance. In this case, preparing could mean taking note of rainfall in your area and perhaps the areas upstream too; to be ready in case the river overflows. Preparation may be tedious but without it, it could mean losing lives and valuable investments if you are caught with your pants down.

2020 has only proven this so far. From natural to health disasters, Southeast Asia has seen its share of bad times; it has also shown us the value of preparedness. The dry season may be upon us right now, but there is no better time than now to be ready for the wet season. It is the time to ask are you flood-ready?

According to Bloomberg, $8 billion was spent by the Chilean government on disaster relief in the past decade due to repeated quakes, volcanoes, landslides, fires and floods.
